About this piece

Full description

  • Table and chair sold separately
  • White, black, or blank finish
  • Mix finishes across a set

Dining furniture is often sold as a fixed set, and that is a poor fit for miniatures: a scene rarely needs six chairs, and paying for four you will never place is money wasted. Here the pieces are split into separate options instead. A square table and a chair are separate entries, so a two-chair arrangement for a small room costs less than a full group, and a longer table with one chair at each end is equally easy to assemble.

Three finishes are on offer. White suits bright scenes and photographs where the furniture should stay quiet in the frame. Black gives a dining group a sharper, more graphic outline and holds its own against patterned wallpaper. The unpainted blank is for anyone matching an existing scheme, or deliberately distressing a piece so it reads as older than the rest of the room.

Chair White, Chair Black and Chair Unpainted blank are each $5.99. Table White, Table Black and Table Unpainted blank are each $8.99. The chair is the cheaper of the two because there is less of it, and $5.99 is the lowest price shown, which is why this reads From $5.99; the comparison price is $7.99. Finishes can be mixed across one arrangement without any trouble: black chairs at a white table, or a single blank chair left bare as a work-in-progress on a dining room floor.

At 1:12 scale the seat height and the tabletop are in proportion with each other, so a chair pulled up to the table reads as a place set for someone rather than as furniture standing on its own, and the top takes small plates or a vase without looking overloaded. This is the same scale as the rest of the Mini Furniture range, so table and chairs bought as separate entries still group as one arrangement.

Six photographs come with this piece, captioned by piece and finish, so white, black and blank versions are all visible before ordering. Read them together for the height of a chair back against the table edge, which is the relationship that decides whether a dining group looks settled in a room.

Handle these patiently. Chair legs are thin and table corners take the first knocks, so set pieces down rather than dropping them into place, brush dust off with a dry brush rather than a cloth, and keep painted items out of strong sun. Store spare chairs upright and unstacked. A dining group completes a room that already has a cabinet or a side table.
